Gut Happy "Merry" mulled wine
Do we even need a reason to drink Mulled wine during the festive season!
This recipe that was created in the Gut Happy kitchen has ensured this festive favourite is free from refined sugars, and contains good gut food to help you maintain some gut health over Christmas! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Ingredients
1 orange, rind removed and set aside (peel rind off with a knife or vegetable peeler)
1 cinnamon stick
1 nutmeg roughly chopped
1 star anise
10 cloves
1/2 cup rice malt syrup
2 cups water
1 green apple, cored and roughly chopped
1 bottle merlot red wine
2 Tbs Gut Happy partially hydrolyzed guar gum (good gut food)
Method
In a medium cooking pot add orange rind, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, star anise, cloves, rice malt syrup, partially hydrolysed guar gum & water.
Stir, and bring to the boil. Let boil for a few minutes then add bottle merlot, the remaining orange cut into 1 cm thick slices, and the apple.
Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes.
Using a ladle pour mulled wine into glasses.
Serve immediately.
